Lazy Bear Founders Honored!

Allen Eggman and Harry Lit, two trailblazing individuals, were recently honored by the California LGBTQ Caucus for their extraordinary contributions as the founders of Lazy Bear Weekend. This prestigious recognition celebrates their vision and unwavering commitment to creating a vibrant and inclusive community event that has touched the lives of countless individuals.

The story of Allen and Harry’s journey began with a shared passion for fostering connections and embracing diversity. In 1995, they embarked on a mission to create an unforgettable experience that celebrated the spirit of togetherness and acceptance. With sheer determination and a deep understanding of the LGBTQ+ community's needs, they established Lazy Bear (produced by their organization Castro Bear)—an annual gathering in Guerneville, California, that quickly gained legendary status. Over the years, their event grew into an unparalleled celebration of love, friendship, and self-expression, attracting people from all over the world who seek joy, relaxation, and a sense of belonging. Allen and Harry’s vision and tireless dedication shaped Lazy Bear into an iconic event that served as a platform for supporting Castro Bear and charitable causes focusing on gay men’s health like San Francisco’s PRC. The California LGBTQ Caucus’ recognition is a testament to their lasting impact and the enduring legacy of their creation.

In 2016, after they produced the 20th Lazy Bear Weekend, Allen and Harry handed the reins to a new board of directors that still run the event today via the nonprofit organization, the Lazy Bear Fund. From 1995 through 2022, the organizations have donated more than $2.5 million to local, regional, national, and international nonprofit organizations with a focus on LGBTQ groups and health care.
